Little Dutchmen RB piles up 328 rushing yards, 6 TD in win over PV
Oh what a night.
Annville-Cleona coach Terry Lehman told Rickey Snyder to be ready for last Friday night’s L-L League Section 3 opener against Pequea Valley.
“I told Rickey he might get 40 carries,” Lehman said.
Close.
Snyder, the Little Dutchmen’s junior running back, had 36 carries against Pequea Valley, and he made every last single one of them count.
The 5-7, 185-pounder gouged out a school-record 328 rushing yards and scored a school-record six touchdowns in Annville-Cleona’s rip-roaring 53-32 homecoming victory over Pequea Valley.
Snyder’s TD runs covered 35, 34, 25, 8, 45 and 5 yards, respectively.
His 328-yard effort eclipsed Annville-Cleona’s previous single-game mark of 321 yards, set by John Rhoades against Lampeter-Strasburg in 1995.
The 328-yard also topped Snyder’s previous single-game best of 270 rushing yards last year against Elco.
For his efforts, Snyder is the LancSports.com Player of the Week.
Thanks to Snyder, Annville-Cleona (1-0 Section 3, 1-3 overall) earned its first win this season – and also spoiled Pequea Valley’s modest 1-game winning streak after the Braves snapped a 29-game losing skid the week before.
Snyder’s big night also vaulted him to second in the league in rushing yards with 475.
I caught up with Snyder before practice on Monday, and we chatted about his big game, about the offensive lineman who paved the way for his 328 yards, and how important it was to get a win and get things cranking.
