Comets’ coach savors 4-0 start; looks forward
It’s been an amazing turnaround for Penn Manor’s football program.
Other than a spirited run to Districts in 2006, it had been more than a few lean years for the Comets.
Enter Todd Mealy.
The former Bishop McDevitt standout is in his third season as Penn Manor’s coach, and he has the Comets cooking.
After going 5-2 in Section 1 and 9-3 overall last season – including a District 3 Quad-A playoff victory over Dallastown for the first postseason win in the history of the program – the Comets have picked up right where they left off.
Penn Manor improved to 4-0 overall after soundly winning its Section 1 opener over Hempfield last Friday. The Comets started last season 7-0 overall before they were tripped up by Warwick – and later Wilson, which went on to win the Section 1 title outright.
Despite losing some major weapons on both sides of the ball – including all five linebackers, the leading rusher (Sean Noll) and Temple recruit Cody Booth – Penn Manor is playing some gnarly defense (the Comets forced six turnovers and Hempfield) and the offense has weapons galore.
Sure looks like Penn Manor is here to stay, y’all.
I caught up with Coach Mealy after the win over Hempfield, and we chatted about the state of Penn Manor’s program.
