Golden Mules’ RB/DB chats about big effort in win vs. Oxford

Solanco’s John Fisher - 108 yards, 2 total TD in win over Oxford // LNP photoJohn Fisher usually gets any number of touches during a varsity football game.

In fact, he had 11 carries in Solanco’s first two games this season.

And then, in the Golden Mules’ non-league capper last Saturday night against Oxford, Fisher was thrust into the spotlight as Solanco’s feature back/scatback type when the team’s leading rusher through two weeks, B.J. Enck, went down with an apparent hip injury early in the fourth quarter.

Fisher went right to work.

The junior speedster had a 13-yard TD run and added a 55-yard interception return for another score – both in the first half, helping Solanco erase an early 7-0 deficit – as the Mules slipped past Oxford 28-19.

Fisher ended up with a team-high 108 yards on 15 carries, and his another one of his backfield mates, slugger Ryan Kutz, added 106 yards and a TD as the Mules piled up 288 rushing yards and won their second game in a row heading into Friday’s Section 2 opener at Elizabethtown.

I chatted with Fisher after the game about his big night, about Solanco’s balance and rugged o-line, and about the Mules’ two-game winning streak coming out of non-league play.
