Audio Podcast interview with season’s first Player of the Week 

Talk about picking up where you left off.

On the last night of regular-season play last football season, Conestoga Valley running back Kevin Kelley galloped for 161 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Buckskins to a 26-21 victory over Ephrata.

It was CV’s first — and only — victory of the season. And for his efforts, Kelley was named Player of the Week.

Fast forward to this season.

Week 1. Game 1. Conestoga Valley is at home against Hempfield, with a new head coach — CV grad and former Bucks’ player and assistant coach Tom Nichols — and a new-look offense.

And Kelley, CV’s I-back in Nichols’ one-back, grind-it-out scheme, once again stole the show.

Kelley carried 25 times for 234 yards and scored three touchdowns, leading CV to a 28-10 win over the Black Knights, who were coming off an 8-win season and a trip to Districts.

One publication even picked Hempfield to win the Section 1 crown this season.

But Kelley, who leads the league in rushing after one week, and the Bucks had other ideas on Opening Night.

For his 234-yard, three-TD effort, Kelley, a 5-8, 175-pound senior, is this season’s first LancSports.com Player of the Week … making him a back-to-back Player of the Week recipient — with a few months in between, of course.
