Former Conestoga Valley coach takes over Pioneers’ girls’ program
He’s baaaaack.
Al Kofroth, who guided Conestoga Valley’s girls’ volleyball team to the 2003 PIAA championship, will be back on the bench this fall.
Kofroth has been named Lampeter-Strasburg’s girls’ head varsity coach. He replaces Carrie Peterson, who spent the last three seasons on the Pioneers’ bench.
Kofroth compiled quite the resume at CV, where he coached the Buckskins’ boys’ program for 24 years (beginning at the club level) and the girls’ program for 17 years. His girls’ teams won seven L-L League titles in a row – from 1995-2001 – and District 3 championships in 1998, 2000 and 2001 … as well as the aforementioned state crown in 2003.
Under Kofroth, CV’s girls’ teams won 148 Section 2 matches in a row from 1993 to 2006, when Garden Spot snapped the Bucks’ incredible streak.
Kofroth was not asked back to CV’s program two years ago, so he was out of coaching last fall during the girls’ season and last spring during the boys’ season.
But he’s back, this time at L-S.
Last fall, the Pioneers’ girls’ team reached the District 3 Double-A tournament, but did not advance out of pool play.
