Longtime District 3 football coach calls it quits

According to this report, veteran Hershey High School football coach Bob “Gump” May has retired - effective immediately.

I got to know “Gump” a little bit over the years. He was a character and a terrific quote. Part of me always wished he would have coached in the L-L League so I could have chatted with him more. I can remember chatting with him a few times after his teams lost to Manheim Central in the District 3 playoffs, and those interviews were always entertaining.

If you read the report, it sounds like there was a lot swirling around Hershey’s program. But I’ll always remember “Gump” as a guy who cared about his kids and who always wanted the best for his program.
