Greetings from … Las Vegas

Vegas, baby. Vegas. I’m so money and I don’t even know it. Or something like that …
Hello from Sin City itself – Las Vegas.
This is my fourth trip to Vegas, and I must say that there is an awful lot of construction going on. Driving up and down Las Vegas Boulevard has been a total nightmare, and it’s tough navigating the area by foot because a lot of sidewalks are also under construction.
I took a quick spin over to the Rio earlier Monday to watch the World Series of Poker, and what should have been a five minute drive took like 25. Ugh.
Crashing out at the Monte Carlo, which is a sweet place right in the middle of everything. MGM is right across the street; Mandalay Bay and Luxor are one way and Bellagio is the other. Pretty cool.
Also got to play some poker – my new hobby. Glad to report that I walked away up $165 my first night at the tables. Not too shabby – but certainly not World Series of Poker worthy … so I’m not getting any crazy ideas.
Will be here until Wednesday, and then either take a quick spin further west to Los Angeles, or just head straight east for my final 1 ½ weeks.
Hot here – 95 on the sign on Las Vegas Boulevard across the street.
More later.

Just remember that when the signs on the high desert remind you to turn off your air conditioner, DO IT. Otherwise, your car WILL overheat! |

I will make next years I hope. |

Hi Artie - I think I'm going to punt on LA. I was there a few years back and had a pretty good time. The Dodgers are away; if they were home I think I would have gone. Instead, I'm going to go south to Phoenix. Never spent much time in Phoenix, plus the Diamondbacks are home, so I'm going to go see a game there - then head back I-10 through Texas, then north through Tennessee and back. Maybe next trip I'll hit LA again! |

I wish you luck with that. Perhaps I will see you there next year............ |

Hi Galty ... I went over to the Rio on Monday, and I couldn't believe how big the poker rooms were. It was amazing. They had 3 HUGE ballrooms full of tables. They were up to Event 43 - the Senior Championship. I actually saw one of Doyle Brunson's sons playing. He was the most famous person I saw - unfortunately. I was scouting around for some pros, but the outer tournament tables were pretty much empty. I also got to see ESPNs two feature tables. That was cool. Nobody was playing at those yet, but I'm glad I got to see it. One of these days I'll get up the nerve to play in this thing - if I can get the dates worked out. For now, it's off to the 1-2 no-limit tables at Monte Carlo. You gotta start somewhere, right? |

Think that all the top pros will be at the main event which starts later,(final table in November)
$10000 buy in last year with over 6000 starting, 9million to the winner(eastgate)
Will play on line in the satellites to see if I can win a package for next years main event.
About a month ago I meet Phil Laak in London he was over with his girl friend Jennifer Tilly(very good women player) who is in a play, What a very nice person he is, gave a crap player like me the time of day and some good pointers. |
galty 6/27/09 10:48 AM | Third Brit wins bracelet
BUT
Interesting bracelet ceremony today. After John Kabbaj received his bracelet they played the Sex Pistols version of "God save the Queen."
I thought it was fantastic to see the suits at Harrahs loosening up to such an extent. Apparently, the Smiths "That joke isn't funny anymore" might have been more appropriate as it seems the Sex Pistols version was not requested or expected by John.
Afterwards Jon Shoreman put in a formal complaint to Jeffrey Pollack and Seth Palansky.
The basis of Shoreman's argument was that they don't mess around with the American anthem so why ours?
The result is that John has to return tomorrow(hopefully he will be in the $50k HORSE day2) when they will play the traditional anthem. |
