Spartans’ QB wraps up victory in Tri-County All-Star Football Game

It was an unforgettable senior season on the football field for Garden Spot’s Weston Martin.

Last fall, the Spartans’ gunslinger piloted Garden Spot all the way to the District 3 Triple-A semifinals.

And last Saturday night, playing in his final game as a prep athlete, Martin helped pilot the South team to a convincing 34-10 win over the North team in the 8th Annual Lancaster-Lebanon League Tri-County North-South All-Star Football Game at Manheim Central.

Working out of the same roll-out formations that paid so many dividends for Garden Spot last fall, Martin completed 10-of-15 passes for 184 yards for the South team. He also tossed a 10-yard TD pass to Penn Manor’s Cody Booth and a 12-yard TD pass to Wilson’s Alex Fegley as the South team piled up some gaudy offensive stats on the way to a 24-point victory.

Martin had some extra time on his hands to prep for the all-star game. He graduated early from Garden Spot to begin his work career. And he’s off to college in the fall – but he won’t continue his football career.

I caught up with him after the game, and we talked about those subjects, as well as playing in the all-star game, what it means to win an all-star game, playing well and making some big plays in an all-star game, and his fond recollections from Garden Spot’s great run last fall.
