Braves poised to name new boys’ basketball coach

Pending school-board approval, former Garden Spot High School and Elizabethtown College standout A.J. Beamer will be Pequea Valley’s next head boys’ varsity basketball coach.

Beamer, who served as Elizabethtown High School’s boys’ varsity coach for one season (2002-03), would replace Mike Schatzmann, who was the Braves’ coach since the 1993-94 season. He led Pequea Valley to the District 3 Double-A title game and into the state playoffs this past season.

E-town went 4-19 in Beamer’s lone season calling the shots. He resigned his post after that season so he could study for his teaching certificate. Beamer remained in the game, serving as an assistant coach in the league the last couple of years. He was also an assistant for E-town High School for three seasons before taking over as the head coach.
