Two of the top sharpshooters in the Lancaster-Lebanon League – and two student/athletes who played in the most memorable L-L League boys’ basketball game this past season – will continue their college careers at the same institution.
Reigning L-L League Player of the Year Jeremy Skoloda from Conestoga Valley and Elizabethtown sniper Chad Styer will play basketball for York College.
Skoloda, a 6-2 shooting guard, finished fourth in the L-L League in scoring (18.5) and his 66 3-pointers were second-most in the league. He also made 92-of-124 free throws (74 percent), while leading the Buckskins to an 11-5 mark (and second-place finish) in Section 2 and 18-8 overall.
CV bowed out to Reading High in the first round of the District 3 Quad-A playoffs – after winning a pigtail play-in game against Twin Valley.
Styer, a 6-1 shooting guard/small forward, led E-town in scoring (12.6) and in 3-pointers made (49), and he also led the L-L League in foul shooting – 84 percent on 41-of-49 attempts.
E-town won the Section 2 championship with a 15-1 record, and the Bears finished 24-6 overall after falling to District 1 champ Norristown 68-60 in the first round of the PIAA Quad-A playoffs. E-town finished seventh in the District 3 bracket.
Skoloda and the Bucks and Styer and the Bears squared off in the L-L League championship game on Feb. 13 at Manheim Township, and CV won a 60-58 thriller in overtime in easily one of the best L-L League boys’ games last season.
Skoloda drilled four 3-pointers and pumped in 19 points to lead CV, which held Styer to just 6 points.
York is a Division III program that competes in the Capital Athletic Conference along with St. Mary’s, Wesley, Mary Washington, Marymount, Salisbury, Hood, Stevenson and Gallaudet.
The Spartans, who are coached by 32-year veteran Jeff Gamber, went 7-9 in the conference and 9-17 overall last season.
