Blazers’ coach wraps up PIAA playoff win over Springfield (Montco), looks ahead
Lancaster Mennonite needed a snap-back performance following last week’s loss to York Catholic in the District 3 Double-A title game – a game the Blazers seemed to be in charge of midway through the fourth quarter.
But it didn’t happen.
York Catholic stormed from behind and won 57-51 in overtime, denying Mennonite back-to-back district championships, after the Blazers won the Triple-A crown in 2008.
So Mennonite took the week and prepped for its state opener vs. Springfield (Montco), and hit the floor running, zooming to a 73-43 win to set up a second-round meeting against District 6 champ South Williamsport on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Martz Hall in Pottsville.
Lovely gym there in Martz Hall. I haven’t been there in a few years, but I’m really looking forward to the trip. If you can’t make it, I will be blogging live. Go to lancsports.com for the link.
I caught up with Mennonite coach Sherri Gorman after the Blazers’ win over Springfield (Montco). We chatted about snapping back after the tough loss to York Catholic, about how the Blazers took care of business in their state opener, and we looked ahead to the next round.
