Beavers’ senior chats about winning program’s 15th district title
Rachel Shirk was downright giddy.
And rightfully so.
Lebanon Catholic’s senior shooting guard was admiring her gold medal Thursday night in the hallway outside the Beavers’ locker room deep inside the Giant Center in Hershey when I caught up to her.
Shirk was thrilled to be wearing gold – not silver, like she and the Beavers settled for last year, when Lebanon Catholic fell to Reading Central Catholic in the District 3 Single-A title game.
So Shirk and her teammates used last year’s loss to get motivated for this year’s district-playoff run, which indeed paid off in gold Thursday when Lebanon Catholic topped Greenwood 40-30 to win its 15th district championship.
Shirk was also a part of the Beavers’ championship team in 2007 as sophomore – giving her a pair of gold medals.
We chatted about the win over Greenwood, about playing in Lebanon Catholic’s proud program, and about teammate Erin Walker, who has been an inspiration to the team. Much more on Erin in the post above.
