District 3 girls’ basketball rankings

The first District 3 girls’ basketball rankings have hit the World Wide Web, and a pair of local teams occupy the top spot in their respective classifications.

L-L League Section 4 co-leader Lancaster Mennonite, in Double-A, and independent Lancaster Country Day, in Single-A, sit atop their classes heading into this week’s games.

Mennonite (11-2 overall) is the reigning District 3 Triple-A champ, but bumped down to Double-A this season. Country Day (7-1) was in the Single-A final two seasons ago, and was a semifinalist last year.

In all, 30 L-L League and/or Lancaster County teams are listed in the rankings, which were compiled by colleague Geoff Morrow at the Harrisburg Patriot-News. Nice work, G-Mo. Give your calculator a rest for a few days, eh?

Any team applying for the district tournament with a record of .500 or better against PIAA teams will qualify for Districts. Teams that are below .500 against PIAA competition will only make the field if there aren’t 16 teams to fill out that bracket.

Here’s where the 30 local teams rank …

18 – Penn Manor (7-7)
23 – Lebanon (5-8)
