Former Manheim Central star chats about AFL freezing 2009 season
Matt Nagy is out of work – well, at least for a year.
The former Manheim Central and University of Delaware standout, who plays quarterback for the Columbus Destroyers in the Arena Football League, was informed this week that the AFL is canceling its 2009 season, but hopes to return in 2010.
A veteran of two Arena Bowl championship games and one of the faces of the league, Nagy, one of the player representatives for the Destroyers, voted late Monday against the league freezing the 2009 season.
Another former Manheim Central standout, Jeff Smoker, will also be without a gig in the AFL in 2009. He played quarterback for the Arizona franchise last season.
I chatted with Nagy about this big announcement, how it affects him and his future, and where he thinks the league will go from here.
