It wouldn’t be basketball season without a preseason All-Star team right?
So here they are … my 5 players to watch in Section 2 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League, listed alphabetically for your reading pleasure …
Gemiqua Benjamin, sophomore forward, Lebanon – Very raw last season as a freshman, when she averaged 8.6 points per game for the Cedars, who are up in Section 2 this season, if you haven’t heard. The more polished Benjamin gets, the tougher she’s going to be to contain on the glass. If she keeps working on her game, she’ll be a monster.
Becca Bigler, senior forward, Elizabethtown – With a full softball scholarship from Hofstra already in her back pocket, Bigler has a lot of pressure off her shoulders, and she can spend the rest of her senior year just letting ‘er rip. She averaged 10.1 points a game last season for the Bears, who went 2-22 overall. So Bigler will be the big sister for this group — while doing her usual dirty work on the boards.
Breana Caldwell, senior guard, Garden Spot – Really enjoy her athleticism and how she can create shots in the key. She chipped in with 10.0 points per game last season, and that number will go way, way up. Trust me.
Aly Goodman, senior guard, Ephrata – Really nice slasher who can weave her way through traffic and get to the rim. And on the next trip she’ll step back in hit a 3 in your mug. Expect her 10.0 average from last season to go up – a bunch.
Taylor Kreider, junior guard, Solanco – Underrated point guard who can also score (10.8 last season). With eight freshmen on board, she’ll be called upon to do even more. If you get a chance, get to a Golden Mares game to watch Kreider. She’s worth the trip.
