Former Cedar Crest standout chats about Marauders’ hot start

MU freshman Carrie Sheffey helped Cedar Crest win the last 2 Section 1 titles // LNP photoCarrie Sheffey had a standout (if not underrated) career for Cedar Crest.

The forward was a key cog for the Falcons’ back-to-back L-L League Section 1 championship teams the last two seasons.

In her senior season, she scored 241 points (7.8 per game) and popped in nine 3-pointers to help Cedar Crest go 14-2 in league games and 23-8 overall. The Falcons reached the L-L League semifinals, the District 3 Quad-A semifinals (eventually finishing fourth) and won a PIAA playoff game before falling in the second round to Scranton.

She didn’t score tons of points, but Sheffey did a ton of dirty work for the Falcons; diving for loose balls, crashing the boards with authority. She was always black and blue.

Sheffey is a freshman all over again – at Millersville University, where she’s contributing at forward for the 4-0 Marauders, who have come flying out of the gates.

Sheffey played a career-best 15 minutes earlier this season against Columbia Union, and Monday night against the University of the Sciences of Philadelphia, she grabbed a couple of rebounds and had an assist in seven minutes in MU’s 67-45 romp.

I caught up with Sheffey after the USP game, and we chatted about her career at Cedar Crest, about fitting in as a true freshman with the Marauders (the practices, apparently, are quite tough), and about MU’s (rather large) expectations for this season.
