Barons’ junior chats about his 75-yard punt return for TD against Mechanicsburg
Manheim Central needed a spark.
And Dan Trafford provided it.
The Barons’ junior speedster took a reverse handoff from Alex Shenk on a punt return and zoomed 75 yards for a touchdown to kick-start Central, which went on to rally past Mechanicsburg 26-21 in a District 3 Triple-A semifinal game last Saturday at Memorial Park in Mechanicsburg.
It was Central’s first punt return for a touchdown this season, and it was just what the doctor ordered for the Barons, who were locked in a tussle with Mechanicsburg, which was the No. 1 seed in the bracket and brought a 12-0 record into the game.
I chatted with Trafford after the game about the big return. He said he got mucho excited last week when Central’s coaches put the trick play into the game play. We also talked about Central’s big win, the Barons’ big special teams plays against Mechanicsburg, Travis Ebersole’s big interception with time running out, and about going back to Hersheypark Stadium, where the Barons will take on West York for the Triple-A title on Friday.
