Barons get two special teams touchdowns, rally past Mechanicsburg 26-21
MECHANICSBURG — Greetings from chilly Memorial Park, where Manheim Central just topped No. 1 seed Mechanicsburg 26-21. Two big special teams plays helped the Barons — Dan Trafford returned a punt 75 yards for a TD (on a reverse) and Alex Shenk returned a kick 91 yards for the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter for Central, which will take on West York for the District 3 Triple-A title on Friday at 7 p.m. in Hersheypark Stadium.
Central hadn’t returned a punt or a kickoff for a score all season — then Trafford and Shenk each popped one here today.
The Barons sealed the win when LB Travis Ebersole picked off a pass on Mechanicsburg’s last-gasp fourth-and-2 call with under three minutes to play.
I chatted with Trafford and Shenk after the game about their big special teams plays, and those Podcasts will be up Monday. So stay tuned for those.
OK, time to go battle the traffic out of here.
