Steel-High’s Jeremiah Young is the state’s new all-time career rushing leader!

FINAL: Steel-High 49, Camp Hill 16 … please continue reading for my game notes and highlights …

My view from the press box for Camp Hill vs. Steel-High // photo by meHERSHEY — Greetings from chilly Chocolatetown … the snow (yeah, snow) has been plowed from the field, and both teams are warming up. Man, it’s chilly. It snowed the whole way up here, but it’s clearing off now, the sun is sneaking though and it should be a pretty good day for football. There are some clouds around, and there will probably be a breeze. This is what happens when you’re still playing high school football in late November, I suppose.

The storyline here is Steel-High’s Jeremiah Young, who needs 65 yards to break the state record for career rushing yards. My prediction is already on record - third carry of the Rollers’ first drive. I’ll keep you posted on his progress.

I’ll supply some notes from time-to-time … scoring updates and summaries. Plus observations from Hersheypark Stadium.

And don’t forget: I’ll be back tonight with you live from Mechanicsburg on lancsports.com for Manheim Central vs. Mechanicsburg in a District 3 Triple-A semifinal showdown. And Keith will also be blogging live tonight on lancsports.com from right here at Hersheypark Stadium, where Lancaster Catholic will take on Middletown in the District 3 Double-A championship tilt.

So stay tuned for some notes. We’re about 40 minutes before kick.

* Steel-High beat Camp Hill 28-20 in Week 10 … Young (ankle) did not play that night.

* Steel-High won the toss and will receive.

* Chatted with Jeremiah’s dad before the game … hard to believe, but he has no scholarship offers yet. None. Incredible.

* Steel-High QB Andre Campbell has limped off with an injury. Rollers’ have switched to a ‘Wildcat’ look, with Young taking direct snaps.

* Looks like Campbell is back in there for Steel-High - third-and-2 at the Camp Hill 5.

TOUCHDOWN STEEL-HIGHJeremiah Young 1-yard plunge with 5:12 to go in the first quarter. Awesome grind-it-out, time-consuming drive. PAT is good … Steel-High 7, Camp Hill 0. Young is up to 44 yards (unofficially). He needs 65 today for the record.

* Camp Hill has like 19 kids on the team. Seriously. I can literally do a head-count of all the Camp Hill players on the sideline. This is one of the smallest teams — numbers-wise — that I’ve ever seen. Holy cow.

TOUCHDOWN CAMP HILL — 30-yard TD pass from Shover to Weber. He took a swing pass in the flat and bolted down the sideline untouched. Nice play. … PAT is good … and with 1:56 to go in the first quarter, it’s Camp Hill 7, Steel-High 7. … Young needs 21 to tie and 22 to break. Stay tuned.

* He rips off a 25-yard run to the Camp Hill 12 to break the record. They stopped the game and gave the ball to Young. Crowd is going nuts … and it just started snowing … how nice.

* Young took the game ball over to his mom in the bleachers. Nice touch. Steel-High is about to score again.

* Snowing pretty good here now … BIG flakes.

* One of the Camp Hill assistant coaches is actually wearing shorts. Wowzer.

END OF THE FIRST QUARTER: Steel-High 7, Camp Hill 7 … Rollers will have second-and-10 at the Camp Hill 19 when we come back.

 * FUMBLE! Camp Hill recovers fumbled snap in the shotgun. Camp Hill takes over at own 44 with 8:15 to go in the half … Shover recovered. He’s a fabulous player. Really snowing a ton here.

* Camp Hill grinding it out on the ground. These guys are the kings of the QB draw. They are in the Red Zone, however.

* Long field goal attempt for Camp Hill … 37-yarder by Gallagher … kick is good!

CAMP HILL 10, STEEL-HIGH 7 on 37-yard field goal by Gallagher with 3:34 to go in the first half.

* Young busts another one … puts him over 100 yards today (101, unofficially) but then he limps off. He did have a gimpy ankle last int he season.

TOUCHDOWN STEEL-HIGHAndre Campbell on a 30-yard keeper. Nice run. PAT is good … Steel-High 14, Camp Hill 10 with 1:46 to go in the half.

* Really snowing … and sticking. We’re not quite up to Manheim Central-Pine-Richland territory quite yet. But the snow is sticking on the field.

HALFTIME - Steel-High 14, Camp Hill 10

TOUCHDOWN STEEL-HIGHCampbell to Smith 47-yard TD pass. Great pump-and-go. PAT is good … Steel-High 21, Camp Hill 10 with 5:56 to go in the third quarter.

TOUCHDOWN CAMP HILLWeber with an 8-yard TD run. Great drive by Camp Hill, which sucked up major block … and then went for 2. Pass was incomplete. Steel-High 21, Camp Hill 16 with 1:47 to go in the third quarter.

* Today’s attendance - 1,774 in Hersheypark Stadium.

TOUCHDOWN STEEL-HIGHCampbell on a 3-yard QB sneak up the gut … PAT is up and good … Steel-High 28, Camp Hill 16 with 4 seconds to go in the third quarter. … Young has been a little gimpy here in the second half; not too many touches. He had 110 yards at the half.

* Young = 24 carries for 138 yards with 10:50 to play, Rollers up 28-16.

* PICK! Steel-High intercepts a pass on a tipped ball. Rollers take over at Camp Hill 37 with 9:01 to go. Young is out of the game.

TOUCHDOWN STEEL-HIGH … warm up the bus. Campbell 51-yard TD pass to Beacher, who was wide (I say wide) open. Nobody near him. … Snowing like mad here again. … PAT is good. … Steel-High 35, Camp Hill 16 with 7:24 to play … get the trophy and the medals ready.

* ANOTHER PICK! Steel-High ball on an interception when Shover over-shot his target. Rollers at Camp Hill 30 with under 6 minutes to go.

TOUCHDOWN STEEL-HIGH — On a shuffle pass from Campbell to Webb, about 4 yards. Campbell was going down and he flipped it up there. PAT is good … Steel-High 42, Camp Hill 16 with 2:31 left … in near blizzard conditions. It’s pretty bad here. … Hats off to Camp Hill. Like I said earlier, they have like 19 kids on varsity, but they’ve really slugged it out all day; in some awful conditions. But this Steel-High outfit is pretty gnarly.

TOUCHDOWN STEEL-HIGH … yikes; this is getting ugly … Fleming picks off Shover and returns it 74 yards for a touchdown. PAT is … good. Steel-High 49, Camp Hill 16 with 59 seconds to go. Wow, this one got out of control in a hurry. Very impressed with Steel-High; they can do it all. And they did a good chunk of this in the second half with Young parked on the bench. … Field is snow-covered. … The 49 points by Steel-High ties the District 3 record for most points scored by one team in a Single-A title game.

FINAL: Steel-High 49, Camp Hill 16 … four District 3 Single-A championships in a row for the Rollers. Nice.
