Holy cow … just back from arctic York, where I watched West York end Garden Spot’s season with a 20-0 victory in a District 3 Triple-A semifinal. I’d never been to West York High School before, and it was a nice stadium. Press box was jammed, but the folks were great and saved me a nice seat right on the 50. Pretty sweet. Garden Spot … five (5) turnovers. That did the Spartans in at the end. They just couldn’t sustain any drives, and never (not once) got in the Red Zone. It was Frustration City for those guys, because West York helped them out with a truckload of penalties and three turnovers of their own. Did I mention the field was snow-caked, and that it was stinking c-c-c-c-cold? Yikes.
Tough break (literally) for West York, when stud RB Brandon Real went down with a broken collarbone in the third quarter. So he will not play next Friday night in the District 3 Triple-A championship game. That’s a real bummer, so to speak.
The news was not all bad for the L-L League … Lancaster Catholic won its fourth District 3 Double-A crown (and first since 2005) with a 41-0 romp over Middletown. And in Quad-A, Wilson flattened yet another foe, waxing Bishop McDevitt 48-6 to advance to the District 3 title game next Saturday.
Don’t forget: The Manheim Central at Mechanicsburg game is Saturday at noon.
Catholic and Wilson will play for sure next Saturday. If the Barons win, they’ll play next Friday night. So football in the L-L League will continue for at least one more (shivering) week.
Here are Friday’s scores:
QUAD-A SEMIFINALS
Wilson 48, Bishop McDevitt 6
Cumberland Valley 44, Governor Mifflin 0
TRIPLE-A SEMIFINALS
DOUBLE-A CHAMPIONSHIP
Lancaster Catholic 41, Middletown 0
SINGLE-A CHAMPIONSHIP
I’ll have plenty more in the coming days, including previews, videos and Podcasts.
