Former Lebanon standout previews Elizabethtown College women’s basketball season

Megan Strohman during her high-flying Lebanon days // LNP photoI always got a kick out of heading over to Lebanon and watching Megan Strohman play basketball.

A wizard with the ball and a deft driver, disher and long-range bomber, she was always on the move, always getting other teammates involved, and always laughing and smiling while doing it.

She would help an opposing player up off the floor with a pat on the back and a smile on one trip, and then bury a 3-pointer to give her team the lead on the next.

And I’ll never forget the time she broke her nose, and had to drive to Johnstown, clear across the other end of the state, to pick up a protective facemask so that she could keep playing.

Tough kid.

Strohman had a standout career for the Cedars. She scored 1,143 points (fourth-most in the history of the program) and helped Lebanon make the postseason a couple of times during her fine run with the Cedars.

From there, she ended up at Lebanon Valley College. But things didn’t quite work out at LVC, and Strohman transferred to Elizabethtown College, where she now provides an instant spark off the bench for the Blue Jays, who fell to Moravian 69-65 on Wednesday night to drop to 0-3.

But Strohman, who recently cut off 11 inches of her hair and donated it to charity (that’s the kind of person she is, by the way; she also participated in a basketball tournament last spring for fallen Garden Spot grad Andrew Nolt), has been a bright spot for legendary coach Yvonne Kauffman.

She popped off the bench and dropped in a career-high 17 points and hit three 3-pointers against Moravian. She also scored 10 points in her E-town debut against Randolph-Macon, and through three games she’s averaging 12.6 points with six 3-pointers.

But it’s not all about putting the ball in the basket for Strohman, who just loves contributing and getting everyone else involved.

I chatted with Strohman after the Moravian game. We reminisced about her Lebanon days and talked about E-town’s expectations for this season.
