Former Cedar Crest standout chats about MU’s big expectations this season
Ashley Moyer could always score.
And she got her chance very early on at Cedar Crest to prove it.
She played – and scored a bunch – as a freshman on the Falcons’ team that won the District 3 Quad-A championship.
And Moyer never stopped putting the basketball through the hoop, finishing her fine career at Cedar Crest with 1,375 points.
She picked up right where she left off when she got to Millersville University, when she started in 24 of 28 games as a freshman. Moyer started just two games – but was instant offense off the bench with 30 3-pointers – last season, when MU advanced to the NCAA Division 2 tournament.
When this season tipped off last Saturday night, Moyer, a 5-9 sniper, was back in the starting lineup, and she did not disappoint in the Marauders’ first two games.
The former Falcons’ star leads MU with 17.0 points per game, and she’s shot a cool 5-for-11 from 3-point land in the Marauders’ first two games – both easy victories: 101-30 over Columbia Union and 84-65 over Lock Haven.
With Moyer at the 2-guard and McCaskey grad Jenna Philo running the point, MU has an all-L-L League backcourt.
And here’s an even funkier factoid – Moyer and Philo, who played against each other in Section 1 of the L-L League, each finished their prep career with 1,375 points.
Creepy, eh?
I caught up with Ashley last Saturday night after MU drubbed Columbia Union 101-30. Moyer hit a couple of early 3-pointers to get that rout started, by the way.
We chatted about her Cedar Crest days, about her career up to this point with the Marauders, and about MU’s (big) expectations for this season.
