Eagles’ senior two-way lineman talks about blocking for Cocalico’s powerful running attack; sets up Friday’s rematch against Manheim Central
If you follow Lancaster-Lebanon League football, you’re probably very familiar with the names Kyle Fisher, Austin Hartman and Matt Carty.
That trio has inflicted a ton of damage in Cocalico’s Veer option attack, pumping out a league-best 442 yards a game and piling up an eye-popping 4,216 rushing yards heading into Friday’s District 3 Triple-A quarterfinal game against Manheim Central in Denver.
But the cool thing about Fisher, Hartman and Carty is that the first thing they’ll tell you is they wouldn’t have any of those gaudy numbers if not for the big boys in the trenches, namely center Blake Bomberger, tackles Pat McMillan and Ben Brugger and guards Ethan Quint and Zach Gosling.
Those guys – undersized, yet tough as nails – have helped plow open holes for Fisher, Hartman and Carty, and they’re a big reason why Cocalico is riding a seven-game winning streak and is in the second round of Districts.
I chatted with Quint about Cocalico’s line, about what it’s like blocking for Fisher, Hartman and Carty, and about the Eagles’ next opponent – Manheim Central, which topped Cocalico 56-33 in Week 4 in Denver.
