Barons’ junior wideout chats about Central’s high-powered Spread offense

Manheim Central’s Casey Ebersole - 25 catches for 303 yards, 4 TDs // LNP photoIt was in Week 4 when Manheim Central torched Cocalico 56-33 that the Barons discovered they could move the football via the Spread Attack.

Senior QB Jeremy Knosp, working out of the shotgun, used all the weapons at his disposal, and started clicking on quick-hitters and crossing routes with three pretty lethal targets: Dakota Royer, Dan Trafford and Casey Ebersole.

Junior Justin Gorman has since taken over the starting role under center, but Central’s high-powered offense has not skipped a beat. The Barons are averaging 401 yards per game heading into Friday’s rematch against Cocalico, this time in a District 3 Triple-A quarterfinal showdown back in Denver.

Royer and Trafford were proven commodities. Both played – and contributed mightily – as sophomores. And those two have been ultra reliable this season: Royer has 48 catches for 1,014 yards and five TDs, and Trafford (a converted RB) has 28 catches for 581 yards and four scores.

Ebersole?

He was sort of the new kid on the block in Central’s receiving corps.

And what a season he has strung together, with 25 catches for 303 yards and four touchdowns. He’s also been steady at d-back.

I chatted with Ebersole about Central’s offense, which has gone away from Veer option and more toward the Spread this season, and about how the Barons are approaching Friday’s big rematch against Cocalico – this time with the season on the line.
