And the school of his choice fits his game perfectly.

The Blue Streaks’ hard-hitting senior linebacker/fullback has accepted a full athletic scholarship offer from the University of Buffalo, where he’ll continue popping pads and delivering bone-jarring hits in New York’s hard-nosed, blue-collar town.

Buffalo, a Division 1 program that competes in the Mid-American Conference, recruited Sizemore to play fullback.

“I really didn’t care which position they wanted me to play; I’ll play either position, as long as I can play,” Sizemore said. “They like how I play on both sides of the ball, but they’re losing their starting fullback after this year, and they said I could possibly come in and start as a freshman. They thought I could fit that spot pretty well. So that helped with my decision.”

Sizemore picked Buffalo over the University of Connecticut, which competes in the Big East Conference, another Division 1 program.

“I think he’s going to a level where he can have a great college career,” Township coach Mike Melnyk said of Sizemore, the Streaks’ second-leading rusher on offense, and menacing defensive ringleader from his inside linebacker spot.

“He handled the whole process very well,” Melnyk said. “He took a lot of visits and went to some games. He really felt comfortable with the staff and he really hit it off with the staff. And he really likes the facilities. For some particular reason, that place struck him right. I think it was the people there that really turned his head.”

Buffalo’s head coach is former Nebraska option quarterback Turner Gill, who is in his third year with the program. Last season, he was named MAC Coach of the Year after leading the Bulls to a 5-3 conference mark and to a share of the East Division championship.

Buffalo had won eight MAC games total in the previous eight seasons.

“Buffalo liked me from the beginning, and I really like the school,” said Sizemore, a 6-2, 220-pounder who wants to report to college next summer weighing in the 230 to 235 range.

The Bulls are 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the MAC this season, and have won two games in a row, including a 32-19 win at Ohio last week. Buffalo is on a bye week, and returns to action on Nov. 4 at home against Miami (Ohio).

Buffalo competes in the MAC Eastern Division along with Akron, Bowling Green, Kent State, Miami (Ohio), Ohio and Temple.

Sizemore and his Streaks’ teammates, meanwhile, will bring a 5-4 record into Friday’s home game against archrival Hempfield, needing a win to stay alive in the District 3 Quad-A playoff hunt.
