One of the top girls’ basketball players in the Lancaster-Lebanon League has made her college decision.
Lancaster Mennonite senior Katelyn Vanderhoff, who will enter her final season with 896 career points, has accepted a full athletic scholarship offer from the University of Maine, a Division 1 program which competes in the America East Conference.
The Black Bears went 4-12 in the America East Conference and 7-23 overall last season.
Vanderhoff, a swing guard, helped Mennonite to a record-setting season last winter. She averaged a team-best 10.8 points per game as the Blazers won the Section 4 championship (beating Lancaster Catholic in a one-game playoff for the crown), reached the L-L League championship game (before falling to Hempfield), won the District 3 Triple-A championship for the first time in school history, before falling in the second round of the PIAA playoffs.
Mennonite went 28-5 overall, setting a school-record for victories.
Vanderhoff earned the reputation as one of the top lock-down defenders in the league, and she’s an excellent slasher who can get to the hoop – and step back and drill a jumper in your mug. She hit 10 3-pointers last season.
Maine’s coach is Cindy Blodgett.
