Braves’ senior wideout needs 158 receiving yards to break Ty Bynum’s L-L record
We could see a Lancaster-Lebanon League football record fall on Friday night.
With 2,170 career receiving yards, Pequea Valley senior wideout Sean Persch needs 158 receiving yards to break former Conestoga Valley standout Ty Bynum’s L-L League mark of 2,327 receiving yards.
Bynum, who plays wideout for the University of Rhode Island, complied those numbers for the Buckskins from 2003-2006. He was a two-time All-State selection for CV.
Speaking of CV, the top three career receiving yardage leaders in L-L League history coming into this season were all former Buckskins:
Bynum was first with 2,327.
Corey Jones, who went on to play for Penn State, was second with 2,257.
And Daryl Daniel, who went on to play for Syracuse, was third with 2,142.
Persch, who missed two games earlier this season following surgery for torn ligaments in his right hand, is poised to pass all three former Buckskins’ and grab the top spot in league history.
Persch added to his career total with a whopper game last Friday night, when he had 15 catches (giving him 142 in his career) for 256 yards in a 54-6 loss to Lampeter-Strasburg.
He was an Associated Press Double-A All-State selection last year, after leading the L-L League with 71 catches.
In six games this season, Persch leads the league in receiving yards (878) and he’s second in receptions (49).
And if he has another big game Friday against Columbia, he could be in a class all by himself.
