Reigning Lancaster-Lebanon League Triple-A singles champ Leah Rutt has earned the No. 1 seed for the upcoming District 3 girls’ tennis tournament.
The first two rounds are set for Saturday at Cedar Crest, and the final two rounds are set for next Monday at Elco.
Rutt, who plays for McCaskey’s team but attends Lancaster Christian, received a first-round bye in the Triple-A bracket, and will take on the winner of a first-round match featuring Dallastown’s Melissa Plowman against Governor Mifflin’s Alyssa Gleason.
Rutt is the defending District 3 Triple-A champ, and she’ll be out to defend her title starting Saturday.
Meanwhile, L-L League Triple-A runner-up Chelsie Yacks, from Hempfield, will face a familiar foe in the first round: Manheim Township’s Caroline Barry.
Barry’s teammate, the Blue Streaks’ Lauren Stauffer, will square off against Wilson’s Cara Wirth, and Manheim Central’s Melanie Nolt to face Central York’s Jen Learmonth in other first-round Triple-A matches on Saturday.
In Double-A, one local player earned a top-4 seed: reigning L-L League Double-A champ Laura Habecker from Lancaster Country Day. She’ll take on Tulpehocken’s Lauren Zezenski in the first round.
Another Habecker – Country Day’s Anne – will take on York Suburban’s Amanda Blyth; Lancaster Mennonite’s Erin Ipsen will face Harrisburg Academy’s Laura Willms; and Donegal’s Whitney Breneman will square off against No. 3 seed Ava Spoden from York Catholic in other Double-A first-round matches on Saturday.
