Bears’ junior LB chats about defensive effort in win over Garden Spot
I thought Elizabethtown’s defense really dug in last Friday in the Bears’ 35-19 L-L League Section 2 showdown win over Garden Spot.
E-town held the Spartans to just 28 rushing yards, and they flustered Garden Spot QB Weston Martin by continually flushing him out of the pocket with some great back-side blitzing.
One of those blitzers was E-town junior LB David Kennedy, who chased Martin silly all night.
I know Martin is a really good rollout passer. But with guys like Kennedy, Alex Kirchner and Shane Rosenberry chasing him all night, Martin was forced to rollout a little quicker than usual, and that fouled up everything.
Hence E-town’s big win – plus a couple of interceptions by the Bears’ defense.
I caught up with Kennedy after the game, and we chatted about E-town’s D, which got the job done once again.
By the way – when you think E-town D, the first two names that usually pop into mind are Kirchner and Rosenberry – runaway first-team all-star picks later this season, book it – but Kennedy has been excellent. Keep an eye on him, for sure.
