Holy cow – if you squint, you can see the finish line.
Another week is in the books – that makes six. We’re definitely cruising here, with Week 7 (and a couple of really good games) on tap.
Here’s a fresh Reinhart’s Rankings for you … my top 5 football teams in the L-L League …
1. Wilson (3-0, 6-0) – Bulldogs stymied Hempfield, tightening the screws on D once again in their 45-13 win. Running out of superlatives to describe this D, which has been, well, super. NEXT: Friday at cross-town rival Reading, which is last in the league in total offense.
2. Penn Manor (3-0, 6-0) – Pitched second shutout this season with a 23-0 win over McCaskey, as league’s top-ranked D dug in once again. Anxious to see how the Comets (who have allowed a league-low 36 points through six games) do this week with first place on the line. NEXT: Friday at Manheim Township (3-0, 4-2). Winner stays on top. Should be fun.
3. Lancaster Catholic (3-0, 5-1) – Kept humming right along after flattening Pequea Valley 68-14. Really good balance here, and with the return of WR/DB Freddy Jankowski, the Crusaders have all of their weapons – with a major revenge game on deck. NEXT: Friday at home against Northern Lebanon, which knocked off Catholic 17-13 in Week 10 last year. Yeah, pretty sure the Crusaders have had this one circled ever since.
4. Elizabethtown (3-0, 5-1) – Good win over Garden Spot, coming from behind in the third quarter to win 35-19. Kept the Spartans’ spread passing attack relatively in check, and speedster Mitch Weidman had a breakout game. Love the tenacity here. NEXT: Friday at home against Cocalico, which scored 53 points against Lebanon, and will bring the league’s top-ranked rushing attack to E-town. Circle that one for sure. Could be a classic.
5. Manheim Central (3-0, 4-2) – Barons are in a nice groove with three wins in a row after losses to Wilson and Lancaster Catholic. Passing attack has been particularly good; Jeremy Knosp went 13-for-15 for 228 yards and a TD in 61-14 win over Ephrata. Dakota Royer has been excellent on both sides of the ball. Keep an eye on Manheim for sure. NEXT: Friday at home against archrival Conestoga Valley, which is 0-6 and has been outscored by 217 points this season.
