Hempfield’s Dana SchliefHempfield’s Dana Schleif has earned All-American status in the 100-yard backstroke.

To earn an All-American honor, swimmer’s times from all 50 states are submitted at the end of the year, and the fastest 130 times in each event are recognized.

Last spring in the PIAA Meet, Schlief had times of 58.78 and 58.43, and she finished eighth in the state in the 100 backstroke — earning All-American status.

“Dana is a well-rounded swimmer that can swim a variety of events — fast,” Hempfield coach Steve Beck said. “She has the ability to train at a high level during the course of the season, and still be able to compete in meets without a lot of rest.”
