Bears’ hit-machine chats about victory over Solanco
Every team needs a defensive ringleader.
Elizabethtown’s is senior linebacker Shane Rosenberry.
This kid’s ticker is always going a million miles an hour, and he leaves absolutely every last ounce of adrenaline on the field in every game.
Rosenberry was his usual ball-hawking, tackle-making self last Saturday night in Quarryville, where E-town survived Solanco 13-7 in the L-L League Section 2 opener for both teams.
E-town and Solanco shared the Section 2 crown last year, so this matchup had a little more juice than normal surrounding it.
How stoked was Rosenberry for the game? He had a big ‘E’ shaved into the side of his Mohawk haircut leading up to kickoff. I haven’t stumbled across many kids who are more focused about playing a football game than Rosenberry. He’s one of the toughest nuts I’ve ever covered.
Solanco was pesky as heck in the second half, slicing into E-town’s lead and holding the Bears to 11 rushing yards after the break.
But E-town’s D rose to the occasion when it needed to, and kept Solanco out of the end zone in crunch time.
Rosenberry made one of the key plays – batting down Ben Miller’s pass on Solanco’s last-gasp play of the night.
I chatted with Rosenberry in E-town’s locker room after the game. We talked about the Bears’ big D stand, and the importance of a 1-0 start in what is shaping up to be a really good Section 2 race.
