Elizabethtown’s senior QB talks about clutch win over Manheim Township
There are a lot of things I like about how Kyle McNeil plays quarterback.
Elizabethtown’s senior signal-caller has a big arm, he can read defenses and he’s mobile.
But what I like best is his pocket presence; how he’s always poised – even when Manheim Township stud LB Nick Sizemore is barreling in on him.
McNeil seemingly never gets psyched out. He stands and he stands and he waits and he waits. He goes through his check downs and seemingly always picks the right receiver – and delivers a dart with his cannon arm.
Check the stats: He was the top-ranked passer in the league coming into Week 3, and he’ll head into Week 4 as the second-ranked passer.
I thought McNeil was particularly poised last Friday night against Township. With the rain falling and the turf turning into mud, he shook off a couple of picks and delivered when it counted most – crunch time, with his team trailing 27-21 and time running out.
McNeil threaded the needle to Jeremi Jones on an out route, and Jones went the distance, tying the game. The play covered 76 yards. Shane Long’s PAT gave E-town the lead for good, and the Bears celebrated a 28-27 victory.
I caught up with McNeil outside the locker (and away from the rain and the mud, thankfully) after the game, and we chatted about the game-winning touchdown and about that poise I told you about.
