You can find the Reading Eagle’s game story about Lightfoot’s huge effort here.
What a night for Columbia.
And what a night for Crimson Tide senior running back Dakotah Lightfoot.
Columbia traveled to Birdsboro on Saturday night to take on Daniel Boone in a non-league game. The Tide is a Single-A program, and was coming off back-to-back losses when its defense got completely shredded. Daniel Boone, a District 3 Triple-A semifinalist last season, came in 2-0, with 933 yards of total offense in its first two games.
But Boone’s starting quarterback – John Monteiro, the Berks I-C leading passer after two weeks – did not play.
But Lightfoot sure did.
Check out these stats:
According to statistics compiled by the Reading Eagle, Lightfoot carried 23 times for 331 yards – that’s an average of 14.4 per pop – and he scored five touchdowns in Columbia’s thrill-a-minute 48-47 overtime win.
Lightfoot scored on runs of 95, 66, 1, 72 and 10, respectively, and the 10-yarder came in OT, giving Columbia the victory.
The 331 yards is not an L-L League single-game rushing record. I do not have that official number in front of me, but I think it was around 350 or so.
I’ll dig for that early in the week and get it posted ASAP.
But for now, a huge tip of the cap to Lightfoot, who carved up Boone and helped the Tide win its first game this season – over a tricky Triple-A foe.
I have a feeling you’ll be hearing a lot more about Lightfoot’s performance next week, so stay tuned for that.
Don’t forget: One more game in Week 3 – Solanco is at Oxford on Monday at 6. That’s the second week in a row the Golden Mules will play a Monday game. But they won’t have a short week, because Solanco will host Elizabethtown on Saturday at 7 p.m.
