She was a dominating middle hitter a year ago, when she helped her team win the section championship, advance to the Lancaster-Lebanon League championship match, reach the District 3 Triple-A semifinals, and go all the way to the PIAA Triple-A title match.
And she will be an even stronger force this season – her final season – on a team with huge expectations after last year’s magical ride.
She is Ashley Schnader, and she’s a returning L-L League All-Star, First-Team District 3 All-Star, and Triple-A All-State performer from last season, when she helped Garden Spot win the Section 2 title and then reach the league final, where the Spartans fell to rival Hempfield, to the District 3 Triple-A semifinals, where the Spartans fell to eventual champ Susquehannock, and all the way to the state final, where the Spartans fell to Allentown Central Catholic.
It was an awesome ride for Schnader (who piled up 506 blocks and 326 kills last fall) and the Spartans, who will return a plethora of players from last year’s team, meaning Garden Spot has high expectations for the season ahead.
Could this finally be the season someone catches Hempfield and seizes league supremacy? If any team is going to do it, it just might be Garden Spot.
In this audio Podcast interview, you’ll hear Ashley put a big red ribbon around last season’s run; hear her talk about this year’s (high) expectations; hear her talk about the top teams in the league, and who might be the last team standing later this fall; and hear her talk about how she’s improved, and where she might end up playing volleyball at the next level.
