Bruuuce in Hersheypark Stadium

Please allow me to get sort of geeky on you for a second …

Not the greatest photo ever - “Born to Run” in Hersheypark Stadium // photo by meMusically speaking, in my humble opinion, there are like six artists you should see performing in the lifetime we’re all currently enjoying:

You need to see Neil Diamond – yeah, corny-to-the-max, I know. But the guy is a true showman. And who wouldn’t sing along during “Sweet Caroline”? We saw The Diamond a few years back at the Sovereign Center in Reading. We were sort of near the back, but it was still pretty decent. And yes, we sang along during “Sweet Caroline”.

You need to see Wayne Newton – in Vegas. Vegas, baby, Vegas. We were lucky to snag tickets to see Wayne at his club in Vegas a few years back, and we were right up near the stage. In fact, Wayne gave me a high-five, and Rebecca got a hug – and a kiss. We weren’t sure whether to cheer or laugh … I think we did a little of both. This guy is completely cheesy. But for some unknown reason, it completely works.

You need to see Elton John – can’t say much for his new songs, but his older catalog is incredible. Take a listen to his “Best Of” sometime. We were also lucky enough to see Elton a few years back at the Sovereign Center in Reading. Pretty good seats; on the side, fairly close. “Rocket Man” was outstanding.

You should see Pink Floyd – although I’m not sure how much touring those guys are doing these days. I was lucky enough to snag a ticket to see Floyd back in like 1994 in my college days up in Boston. Saw them at Foxboro Stadium, and yeah, I think they had those big, inflatable pigs flying around. Wow — that pig link takes you to a photo from the show I was at. Incredible. The internet is the greatest thing ever.

You absolutely, positively need to see U2 – they are my favorite band of all time. I have followed them to all ends of the earth (well, to Jersey, Pittsburgh, Boston, D.C., Philly and even Montreal, if you consider that all ends of the earth). I’ve even met Bono three times and The Edge twice. When you see them play “Where the Streets Have No Name” live, I swear you leave your body for like six minutes. Don’t believe me? Watch the clip. I’m thankful to say I’ve done that 19 times in my life. And I will definitely add to that number.

Rebecca outside Hersheypark Stadium before Bruce show Tuesday night // photo by meAnd last but certainly not least … you need to see Bruce Springsteen. And for the sixth time on Tuesday night, I was lucky enough to see Bruce in Hersheypark Stadium. Wow, what an atmosphere that was. I’m so used to going there for football and soccer games, so to be there walking around with 30,000 people at a Bruce show was a little freaky. But it was awesome. To watch Bruce and the E Street Band play “Born to Run” live, well, it rivals watching U2 play “Where the Streets Have No Name”. It’s just incredible.

Anyhoo … I won’t bore you to tears with a full Bruce concert review from Hershey. I’ll just say that he played a whopper of a show (from 8:30 until about 11:45), and pulled out a couple of tunes he hasn’t played in forever. Rebecca had a fabulous time – she’s seen him, oh, probably 10 times now. She’s a big fan.

OK, that’s my big musical post. I’m done being geeky now.

Back to all-L-L League news all the time (as far you know).
