Hempfield’s Jon Moser and Brett Houseal and Lancaster Catholic’s Travis Jankowski are honored by Pennsylvania Baseball Coaches Association

Three Lancaster County prep baseball players have been rewarded handsomely for their success on the diamond earlier this spring.

Hempfield teammates Jon Moser and Brett Houseal and Lancaster Catholic’s Travis Jankowski have been named to the Pennsylvania High School Baseball Coaches Association All-State team.

Moser and Houseal were honored in the large-school division, for schools in Quad-A and Triple-A, while Jankowski was honored in the small-school division, for schools in Double-A and Single-A.

Moser was the lone senior amongst the trio. The hard-hitting outfielder paced Hempfield with 33 hits, eight homers and 30 RBIs this past season, when the Black Knights won the L-L League title and made spirited runs in the District 3 and PIAA playoffs.

Moser hit .434 for the Knights.

His teammate, Houseal, had a fine junior season for Hempfield. On the hill, he went 10-3 and tossed nine complete games in his 14 starts. He pitched to a fine 1.22 ERA and had 95 strikeouts, and opposing batters hit just .195 against him.

At the plate, Houseal hit .369 with 22 RBIs.

Meanwhile, Jankowski was one of the catalysts on a Catholic team that won the District 3 Double-A championship.

The fleet outfielder hit .471 with 33 hits in the Crusaders’ 26 games, he scored 25 runs, knocked in 20 and swatted 16 extra-base hits. Jankowski – aka “Freddy” – also stole 24 bases, and was nabbed just once. And he only struck out six times in 70 at-bats.

He hit .647 during Catholic’s run to the district title.
