Here’s a trivia question for you:
Who is the only returning Lancaster-Lebanon League football player this season who was a two-way, first-team all-star last season?
If you said Lancaster Catholic’s Nick Schmalhofer, stand up and take a bow.
The Crusaders’ two-way terror earned Section 3 first-team honors last season on offense (tackle) and defense (interior lineman), and he’ll be back on both sides of the ball for Catholic this season.
And if you didn’t hear, the Crusaders will be loaded for bear – again.
Kyle Smith is back under center, and he’ll have the fleet Travis “Freddy” Jankowski on the flanks, while Schmalhofer will anchor the D from his end spot.
So keep an eye on the Crusaders in the coming months – and definitely keep an eye on Schmalhofer, who is the subject for this audio Podcast, previewing the upcoming season.
In this post, hear Nick talk about Smith and his passing prowess; about Travis – or is it Freddy; about overcoming a nasty ankle injury and rehabbing his way back to 100 percent; about his recruiting trials and tribulations, which included a trip to a camp in California; about Catholic’s Week 3 opponent (Barons); and about how he thinks the Crusaders will do this fall (here’s hint: pretty darn good).
