JEFFREY REINHART jreinhart@LNPnews.com
He is a lean, mean blitzing and sacking machine.
Dakota Royer has a knack for finding quarterbacks – unsuspecting quarterbacks who are hanging around the pocket entirely too long.
Manheim Central’s junior defensive end made his presence felt in his first varsity season for the Barons last fall – taking aim at stray quarterbacks and often stopping running backs cold in their tracks before they even got back to the line of scrimmage.
Royer transferred to Central from the School District of Lancaster prior to his sophomore year – and what a sophomore season (and Barons’ debut) he had last fall on the football field.
He quickly established himself as a speed-rushing, quarterback-sacking end, with plenty of speed to burn, outstanding tackling ability, and skills aplenty.
Royer can also run the ball a little bit, too, and will probably get some more touches in the backfield for the Barons this fall.
But he’ll make his mark in another backfield – the opposition’s backfield, where he’ll very likely continue to blow up plays before they get started.
In this fourth Podcast featuring returning L-L League football standouts, hear Royer chat about why he enjoys playing defensive end so much, what it’s like playing for coach Mike Williams and for Central’s storied program, how college recruiters are already on the lookout for him, and how jacked up the Barons are to forget about last year, and start punishing some people again.
