L-L LEAGUE’S WITMER, ECKER, IOSUE, McCARTHY COMPETE IN NATIONALS
Found some results from the Nike Outdoor National Track and Field Championships from this past weekend, and a couple of L-L League athletes were in Greensboro, N.C., for the competition.
The top finisher from the local contingent was Manheim Central’s Jack Iosue, who took sixth place in the javelin with a heave of 189-4. His seeding throw was 197-7.
Manheim Township’s Justin McCarthy also competed in the javelin event, and he took 21st place with a throw of 165-0. His seeding heave was 180-2.
Neal Huynh from Altoona won the javelin event with a throw of 204-6.
Meanwhile, Penn Manor’s Jocelyn Witmer finished in a tie for 12th in the pole vault competition with a clear of 11-11 ¼. The District 3 record-holder’s seed clear was 12-3.
Leslie Brout from Watertown, South Dakota won the pole vault with a clear of 13-3.
Witmer’s teammate at Penn Manor, Meg Ecker, finished 21st in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 18:41.86. Ashley Brasovan from Wellington, Florida won in a blazing 16:18.91, setting a national record for a sophomore.
