My view from above the action at Central York High School // Photo by meJust back from Central York High School (cool gym, by the way; that’s it on the left), where Hempfield’s boys’ volleyball team pulled off an all-timer.

Facing elimination from the District 3 Triple-A Tournament after dropping a 2-1 decision to Carlisle in their second pool-play match, the Black Knights knocked off host Central York — um, the No. 1-ranked Triple-A team in the state, by the way — to not only advance to the district semifinals, but to win Pool B.

It was a clutch win at an incredibly key moment for Hempfield, which will try and win its third district championship in a row on Friday. The Black Knights are also the two-time defending PIAA champs.

For a couple of hairy minutes Wednesday night, it sure looked like all of that was going to come to an abrupt end.

Oh yeah — that spiffy photo on this post? LNP was gracious enough to supply me with a trusty new camera phone (thanks), so I thought I’d put it to use Wednesday at Central York and give you (here it comes) my view from the press box high atop the gym.

Actually, it was a press area. But it worked for me; the table and chairs were certainly nice for the press members on hand.

By the way, they have four courts going at once in that place. It’s crazy.

Check back Thursday for my story.

Oh yeah, and all that stuff I posted earlier about David Archuleta winning American Idol … never mind.
