A girls’ basketball note to pass along, as a coaching vacancy in the L-L League has been filled — at Cocalico, where Rich Kohler has taken over the reins. Ah yes, L-L girls’ basketball. Any time is a good time to chat L-L girls’ basketball.
Cocalico has found a head coach to fill its girls’ basketball vacancy.
Former Cocalico, Garden Spot and Elizabethtown assistant Rich Kohler, who teaches in the Cocalico School District, has taken over the Eagles’ girls’ basketball program, replacing Shawn Martin, who guided Cocalico to a 6-17 overall mark in his only season on the job this past season.
Kohler served as a boys’ varsity assistant coach at Garden Spot from 1993-2001, and was the junior varsity boys’ coach at Garden Spot from 2001-2002 before moving to E-town, where he served as the junior varsity boys’ coach from 2002-2003 before heading to Cocalico.
Kohler served as the seventh grade boys’ coach from 2003-05 in his first stint with Cocalico before heading back to Garden Spot as the junior varsity boys’ coach from 2005-07.
He spent last season as the junior high girls’ coach at Cocalico – his first season coaching girls.
He’ll coach a varsity girls’ team for the first time next season, when Cocalico dips back down to Section 3, flip-flopping with Lebanon, which will go back up to Section 2 in the latest phase of L-L League realignment.
