Ephrata's Brynn Lyons has a top-3 seed in three events // LNP photoWanted to post this a day or two ago but I got swamped. Sorry. The District 3 track and field championships get started Friday afternoon (in the rain, it sure looks like), and here’s a preview box I put together:

DISTRICT 3 BOYS AND GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

WHERE: Shippensburg University.

WHEN: Events for boys and girls in Triple-A and Double-A begin Friday at 1 p.m. and continue Saturday at 9 a.m.

Penn Manor’s Alie Girvin // LNP photoGIRLS TRIPLE-A: Two L-L League athletes earned a No. 1 seed here, and they are teammates – Penn Manor’s Jocelyn Witmer is first in the pole vault (12-0) and Alie Girvin is first in the discus (140-10). Both are defending district champs. … Ephrata’s Brynn Lyons earned top-three seeds in three events: She’s No. 2 in the javelin (130-11 ½) and in the long jump (18-1) and she’s No. 3 in the intermediate hurdles (46.34). McCaskey’s Courtney Jackson is third in the javelin (125-5). … Three more No. 2 seeds here – Garden Spot’s Liz Martin in the intermediate hurdles (45.24), McCaskey’s Karla Verkouw in the pole vault (11-0) and Lampeter-Strasburg’s Jenna Witmer in the discus (134-10). … Garden Spot’s Tynesha Faust earned a pair of No. 3 seeds – shot put (39-5) and discus (127-7) – and her teammate, Angie Messner, is third in the high jump (5-5). McCaskey’s Emily Dresher is third in the 200-meter dash (25.20). … Warwick’s 3,200 relay team is seeded second (9:32.82). … The defending team champ is Harrisburg.

GIRLS DOUBLE-A: Just three local athletes earned top-three seeds here, led by Elco’s Kayleigh Perry, who is No. 1 in the 1,600 (5:00.93) and No. 2 in the 3,200 (11:08.75). … A pair of Lancaster Catholic teammates earned No. 3 seeds – Olivia Von Neida in the intermediate hurdles (47.15) and Amanda Young in the shot put (37-8 ¼). … The defending team champ is Trinity.

CV’s Vince McNally // LNP photoBOYS TRIPLE-A: Three No. 1 seeds here, all belonging to Cedar Crest athletes: Tom Troxell is first in the 800 (1:52.54), Mark Manno is first in the discus (161-8), and the Falcons’ 3,200 relay team is the pre-race favorite (7:58.12). Cedar Crest is also the No. 2 seed in the 1,600 relay (3:20.05), just ahead of the third seed, McCaskey (3:23.36). … Cocalico’s Kyle Fisher, who stole the show at the L-L Meet, winning the 100, 200 and 400, is No. 2 in the 200 (21.91) and No. 3 in the 400 (49.38). … Conestoga Valley’s Vince McNally, a Penn State recruit, is back to defend his title in the 1,600 as the No. 2 seed (4:19.03). … Other No. 2 seeds include Manheim Central’s Taylor Courtney in the intermediate hurdles (38.57) and L-S teammates Justin Taylor in the high jump (6-9) and Quinn Staley in the pole vault (14-8). … Local No. 3 seeds include McCaskey’s Robert Dixon in the 100 (10.84), Hempfield’s Kori Meshaw in the intermediate hurdles (39.02), Manheim Township’s Ben Stabler in the shot put (52-4), Manheim Central’s Jack Iosue in the javelin (197-7) and Garden Spot’s Hans Andrews in the pole vault (14-0). … The defending team champ is Harrisburg.

BOYS DOUBLE-A: Lancaster Catholic’s Neal Fox will be a busy guy. He’s the No. 1 seed in the triple jump (44-2), the No. 2 seed in the high hurdles (14.94) and the No. 5 seed in the intermediate hurdles (40.09). … Annville-Cleona’s Andrew Batula also snagged a No. 1 seed in the high jump (6-11), and he’s No. 3 in the long jump (21-5). … Two more No. 3 seeds here – Columbia’s Jeff Swisher in the 800 (2:00.77) and Lancaster Catholic’s Kyle Smith in the javelin (169-11). … Columbia’s 1,600 relay team is third (3:27.14). … The defending team champ is Trinity.
