A pair of standout football players from Columbia have made their college choices.
Reigning Lancaster-Lebanon League rushing champ Ben Guiles will play for Lebanon Valley College.
And hard-hitting linebacker and league all-star Don Thompson will play for Millersville University.
Guiles had a dynamite season as Columbia’s feature tailback last fall, smashing the school’s 55-year-old single-season rushing mark with 1,665 yards in 11 games. He also scored 22 touchdowns, and won the L-L League rushing derby.
Guiles, a 5-11, 170-pounder, as a First-Team L-L League Section 3 All-Star at running back and at defensive back, and he helped the Tide reach the District 3 playoffs.
Guiles, who will study in Lebanon Valley College’s heralded music program, is expected to see some time as a true freshman.
Meanwhile, Thompson will play for the Marauders and first-year coach Greg Colby, who replaced Joe Trainer earlier this spring.
Thompson, a 6-1, 200-pound ball-hawker, was named the Section 3 Linebacker of the Year, and he was a First-Team L-L League Section 3 All-Star at inside linebacker.
With Guiles and Thompson playing starring roles, Columbia finished 8-3 last fall, falling to Delone Catholic in the first round of Districts.
