Final postcard from the road: Tennessee

JEFFREY REINHART jreinhart@LNPnews.com

The happy vacationing family at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TennesseeGreetings from Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, y’all.

Yes, we’re still on vacation. Hope you haven’t forgotten about me.

Since my last update, we’ve spent a good chunk of time in the car, but we’ve also had some very nice stops at locales such as Austin, Texas; Little Rock, Arkansas; Memphis, Tennessee; and here in the beautiful Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area in Tennessee.

We spent Thursday at Dollywood – a theme park in the Smokey Mountains owned by Dolly Parton. I’d compare it to Hersheypark, only in the woods and with less scary rides. Oh, and without all the chocolate.

That sweet photo on this page is us in Dollywood on Thursday afternoon. Talk about a perfect time to go – the place was basically empty, and we didn’t wait in any lines all day – including the eight times Sarah went on the carousel.

Sad to report that our vacation is just about over. We could get up Friday and drive about 12 hours and be home. That’s one option. Or we could break it up and stay one more night somewhere in the Virginia area. We’re not sure yet; maybe we’ll flip a coin.

Either way, it’s been an awesome trip. We love the south and the southwest, so we had a great time. And Sarah has actually done pretty well on the road. She loves hotels (especially hotels with pools and hot tubs) and being on the road. But she hasn’t eaten very well.

Speaking of eating … yours truly will be starting a diet when we get home. Yikes.

Heard the L-L League tennis championships are in the books. Congrats to Duong and Veronis, who defended their titles. Looks like I’ll be stepping into girls’ soccer playoffs and the L-L League track finals when I return on Monday.

So get ready for scads and scads of L-L news to return to this page in a few days – looking forward to jumping back in.

Thanks for reading my updates from the road. Hope you enjoyed the snapshots.
