FORMER MANHEIM CENTRAL AND UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE STANDOUT IS HEADED TO MIAMI
AUSTIN, Texas – I’ve never written a story with an Austin, Texas dateline, so this is definitely a first for me.
A scoop – on vacation, no less.
Former Manheim Central standout and University of Delaware plow horse Mike Byrne has signed a free agent deal with the Miami Dolphins.
The former Barons’ star and Blue Hens’ offensive lineman was not drafted. But shortly after the final round on Sunday evening, Byrne was offered a free agent deal by the Dolphins, and he accepted.
Byrne spent Sunday evening celebrating in Manheim with family and friends, including his line coach at Central, Barons’ assistant coach Dave Hahn.
Byrne will join another former L-L League standout in Miami – quarterback Chad Henne, the former Wilson and University of Michigan star who was drafted in the second round by the Dolphins.
After helping Central win the state Triple-A championship, Byrne went on to have a standout career for Delaware. I linked his bio and UD’s list of accomplishments above, so be sure to click on those for more on Byrne, won’t you.
As for a vacation update – we’re in Austin for the day and night (cool town with plenty of eclectic people and places), and Monday we’re heading back east, with stops (among other places) set for Waco, Little Rock, Memphis, Nashville, Pigeon Forge, Kentucky, West Virginia and then home by Saturday. Wow, what a trip. More postcards from the road (I hope) to follow …
