Our final spring sports preview hit the paper today: L-L League girls’ lacrosse. One of our sports correspondents, Augusta Nissly, put together the following preview caps:
SECTION 1
Cedar Crest
COACH: Jeanine Snyder (first season).
KEY PLAYERS LOST: Rebecca Ehrgood, goalie; Kelly Boyer, center; Heather Rhine, attack; Andrea Light, attack.
KEY PLAYERS RETURNING: Alyssa Zinnser, attack; Kelle Hibshmann.
OTHER KEY PLAYERS: Kearstin Geist, Alyssa Gettler, Kira Oshaben, Jamie Karinh and Kelsey Latshaw.
OUTLOOK: Cedar Crest plans on being competitive this season, among a league where the competition is strong. “I expect to see great improvement in the girls this season. The competition will be tough with so many talented teams,” Snyder said.
Hempfield
COACH: Elizabeth Hockley (sixth season).
KEY PLAYERS LOST: Lauren Frankhouser, midfielder (New Era All-Star); Caitlin Sears, midfielder and deep defense; Aleigha Clark, deep defender.
KEY PLAYERS RETURNING: Kristi Bachman, sr., high attack; Alexis Landau, sr., goalie (New Era All-Star); Erin Miller, sr., deep defense; Kelsey Pfautz, sr., midfield and defense; Auburn Weisensale, jr., attack/midfield.

OUTLOOK: After a heartbreaking season filled with close games, the Knights spent the offseason sharpening their skills. “We want to come out of the gates with a bang. I have a lot of returning players, and they remember those close games from last year and the teams we didn’t beat,” Hockley said. “Needless to say, my girls are ready to show those teams how hard we have worked and that we are a different, more unified team this year.”
Lancaster Country Day/McCaskey

OUTLOOK: The face of Country Day/McCaskey is young, as four freshmen will be part of the starting squad this season. “There is tremendous potential here, and it will be exciting to watch the players grow as individuals and the team grow as a unit,” Thayer said. “The players are enthusiastic to make some strides, so it will be a very exciting season for us.”
Manheim Township
COACH: Lisa Lyons, (eighth season; New Era Coach of the Year).
KEY PLAYERS LOST: Erin Kirk, attack (New Era All-Star); Kelly Lynch, attack; Sarah Conosa, third man; Brittany Whiteside, point; Hilary Conrad.
KEY PLAYERS RETURNING: Kate Cook, sr., attack; Marsha Denlinger, sr., midfield; Jess Ford, sr., point; Meghan McDevitt, sr., attack (New Era All-Star; currently injured); Keelan McKendry, sr., attack; Liz Rosenfeld, sr., third man; Katherine Fraile, so., goalie; Rachel Rosenfeld, so., attack.

OUTLOOK: The Blue Streaks expect great things this season, Lyons said, as they take the field returning a large senior class. Supporting the returning players is a handful of underclassmen who are going to be an asset to the Streaks. “Manheim Township is going to be very well-rounded this year,” Lyons said.
Penn Manor
COACH: Jim Miller (eighth season).
KEY PLAYERS LOST: Mary Purcell, center (New Era Player of the Year); Megan Askins, defender (New Era All-Star); Erica Wilson, defender.

OUTLOOK: Penn Manor will be returning to the field this season with a lot of new faces. The Comets’ success this season will depend on how quickly the new players can adapt to the varsity level of play. “We have a solid core of returnees in the midfield and in the goal, but our season will depend upon how quickly the young and new players adapt and contribute,” Miller said.
SECTION 2
Cocalico
COACH: Mary Beth Cardin (eighth season).

OUTLOOK: The Eagles are returning a large portion of their starting line up from last season. “We are looking to better our record from last year and that should be achievable,” Coach Cardin said. “The level of play in the L-L League has gotten consistently better over the years, which makes for a lot of close and exciting games. It gets harder each year to predict who will be on top.”
Conestoga Valley
COACH: Mike Rinier, (eighth season).
KEY PLAYERS LOST: Ashley Mogle (New Era All-Star), Molly Rinier, Lauren Montague (New Era All-Star), Susie Taylor and Lauren Bowers.

OUTLOOK: CV goes into this season knowing it is anyone’s game. “We plan to take this season one game at a time,” Rinier said. “I don’t see any one clear-cut team in the league with a distinct advantage.”
Ephrata
COACH: Kristin Eckert (first season).
KEY PLAYERS LOST: Kira Shelley, Hannah Hess.
KEY PLAYERS RETURNING: Jamie Gerhart, sr., center; Morgan Hosler, sr., home (New Era All-Star).

OUTLOOK: The Mounts plan to take the team further than they’ve gone before. “I believe this season Ephrata will be as strong of a competitor as other teams,” Eckert said.
Lampeter-Strasburg
COACH: Laura Chiodo (first season).

OUTLOOK: Although L-S is looking to use this as a building season, the Pioneers are also aiming to have a winning season. “Improvement in each game is necessary to have a winning season. The girls on this team are hard workers and deserve a great season,” Chiodo said. “Learning from our mistakes will make us a team that never gives up.”
Warwick
COACH: Cassie Rumbaugh (third season).
KEY PLAYERS LOST: Nikki Auker, Kelsey Cislo, Krista Gallagher.

OUTLOOK: Warwick enters the season with both eyes open as the Warriors prepare to face the teams that they believe will be the top contenders. “We are going into the games cautiously — yet optimistic,” Rumbaugh said.
