Stumbled across this nice note this morning:
Former Manheim Central and University of Delaware quarterback Matt Nagy, who is slinging it professionally for the Columbus Destroyers in the Arena Football League, is doing some very nice charity work for the good folks in Ohio – and in these parts.
Click here to see what Nagy is up to – and how you might be able to get involved.
You might even recognize some of the people on the list.
Columbus is 2-4 overall after a 0-3 start. Nagy has completed 131-of-199 passes for 1,405 yards, with 27 touchdown passes against just two interceptions.
The Destroyers’ next game is Sunday at 3 p.m. at New York. Columbus will host Philadelphia on April 21 in a game that will be televised by ESPN2.
Nagy and the Destroyers will play at Philadelphia on Saturday, May 17.

I first got to see Matt in action, in the late 90's, when he refereed the girls Jr. High basketball team, with Scooter. He was the kindest most personal ref. out there. He'd explain very patiently his calls to the girls to help them improve w/out showing partiality to either team.
Too bad he didn't play basket ball b/c during 1/2 time he'd stand way outside the 3-point line and hit basket after basket.
He was a genuine good guy, then, and it wasn't hard to miss by those looking on. Glad to see he still is. |

Any referee out there that is able to put up with the abuse that you would have given him, must be worth his weight in gold....... |

Yeah, yeah, when Gregg Funk spotted me in the stands, he'd come over and ask if he should kick me out now, or wait til I cause trouble. Who, ME? Make trouble!!
I'd just ask if he wanted my bi-focals now or when he needed them!! |

I already have a few around me that yell out some questionable comments. Kinda scares me if the girls happen to be sitting with us at the time and not walking around....... |

Oh, I don't yell bad stuff at football games, only basketball games! I don't even know if Rev. Funk ref's basketball games any more. But it was always a standing joke between us; about me being kicked out, and if he needed my glasses.
I've only been kicked out of 1 game ever, and that was at my sons soccer game, and I'll have you know I lasted a whole 2 minutes before that happened!! He was quite proud of me for that!!(my son that is) |
