According to this very cool list on PennTrackXC.com, several Lancaster County track and field athletes signed national letters of intent in February. Yeah, I know: it’s April. I’m a busy guy. Settle down.
Thanks for the heads-up note from M.C. by the way. Appreciate it.
One of the names that jumped out to me right away was former Lancaster Mennonite standout (and reigning New Era Female Athlete of the Year) Lindsey Shertzer, who took a year off after graduation to do mission work.
According to PennTrackXC.com, Shertzer has committed to Millersville, where she’ll re-start her running career.
I know she was teetering on whether or not to run in college, so it was nice to see that she will indeed compete collegiately.
Three other local standouts also picked MU: Garden Spot’s Tynesha Faust (throws) and Hempfield teammates Tanzil Cole (sprints) and Jordan Saunders (sprints/hurdles).
Another pair of Hempfield teammates – Melissa Fellenbaum (pole vault) and Monica McMinn (high jump) – committed to Kutztown University.
And if you’ll allow me to be a complete homer for 10 seconds, I’m proud to say that McCaskey sprinter Emily Dresser signed with Northeastern University in Boston – and yes, that’s my alma mater. Yep, I actually got into college. Go Huskies. (Geez, I really miss Boston)
Those are the kids mentioned on the PennTrackXC.com list – but I’m sure there are plenty more out there, like Vince McNally, CV’s distance kingpin, picking Penn State, and Penn Manor thrower Alie Girvin choosing Elon. So if I missed anyone else (and I’m quite sure I did), all apologies.
Did I mention I go on vacation in two weeks?
Thanks for reading, as always.
