These boys’ tennis preview caps were prepared by our very own Phil Glatfelter.

KEY PLAYERS LOST: Brett Laudermilch, Andrew Wentzel, Brad Wolfson.
KEY PLAYERS RETURNING: Colin Habecker, sr.; Tyler Lied, sr.; Nick Steele, sr.; Tyler Chanas, jr.; Jordan Maria, jr.; Stephen Kurban, so.
OUTLOOK: Only Kurban is a returning letterman for Rohrbach, who’s looking for others to step up. “Some players have been working hard in the offseason, and it will be interesting to watch our season unfold,” Rohrbach said.
Cocalico
COACH: Todd Snyder (first season).
2007 RECORD: 10-2, 9-1 L-L Section 1, tied for first.
KEY PLAYERS LOST: Matt Fetter, Jon Gordon, Cameron Iati.
KEY PLAYERS RETURNING: Michael Duong, sr.; Jordan Rutt, sr.; Justin Wanner, jr.
OUTLOOK: Snyder takes over for Barb Fetter, who was the New Era Coach of the Year after directing the Eagles to a section co-championship with Manheim Township. Duong, the L-L Triple-A singles champion, leads the team, which will need untested underclassmen to fill in the No. 4 and 5 spots.
Conestoga Valley
COACH: Dale Gregg (20th season).
2007 RECORD: 9-6, 5-5 L-L Section 1.
KEY PLAYERS LOST: Bill Darras, Derek Gregg, Matt Zigment.
KEY PLAYERS RETURNING: Chris Search, sr.; Kip Zechman, jr.
OUTLOOK: A middle-of-the-pack finish last year is likely to be repeated, as the Buckskins work in a number of new players. Zechman, a state qualifier in Triple-A doubles last year, will play at No. 1.
Elizabethtown
COACH: Chip Diem (first season).
2007 RECORD: 10-2, 8-2 L-L Section 1.
KEY PLAYERS LOST: Alex Herr, Shawn Newlin, Dan Nguyen.
KEY PLAYERS RETURNING: Colton Brown, sr.; Mike Sweigart, sr.; Alex Trimble, so.
OUTLOOK: Diem is expecting big things in his first season. The Bears’ only losses last year were to Manheim Township and Cocalico, the only teams to finish higher in the Section 1 standings. He’s looking for the team to do as well or better this time around.
Ephrata
COACH: Steve Sweigart (10th season).
2007 RECORD: 5-7, 3-7 L-L Section 1.
KEY PLAYERS LOST: Cameron Auker, Shane Burridge, Brad Sweigart.
KEY PLAYERS RETURNING: Drew Kramer, jr.; Brett Simmons, jr.; Jim Gannon, so.; Shane Halloran, so.

Garden Spot
COACH: Manfred Eller (10th season).
2007 RECORD: 1-13, 0-10 L-L Section 1.
KEY PLAYERS LOST: Andy Wananchak.
KEY PLAYERS RETURNING: Mitch Good, sr.; Shawn Martin, sr.; Jason Ruhl, sr.; Troy Wojcik, sr.
OUTLOOK: After going winless in the section last season, the Spartans will simply look to improve as this season unfolds.
Hempfield

KEY PLAYERS LOST: Alan Hummel.
KEY PLAYERS RETURNING: Greg Kline, sr.; Kevin Shulz, sr.; Scott Blackburn, jr.; Mike Gates, jr.; Jim Saxton, jr.; Andrew Thomas, jr.; Shawn McMullen, so.; Chase Pipkin, so.
OUTLOOK: Bair has a nice mix of veterans and first-year players who should make the Knights a solid team. Hempfield lost a top-notch player in Hummel, so returning players, like Thomas, who played No. 2 last year, will have to step up to offset his absence.
Manheim Township
COACH: Doug Pennington (13th season).
2007 RECORD: 13-5, 9-1 L-L Section 1.
KEY PLAYERS LOST: Dylan Canavan, Mark Mentzer, Andy Weiner.

COACH: Jack Bippus (third season).
2007 RECORD: 6-5, 6-4 L-L Section 1.
KEY PLAYERS LOST: Zac Bullock, Greg Dewet, Ruslan Nurullaev, Ben Rutt.
KEY PLAYERS RETURNING: Cole Weber, sr.; John Gallagher, jr.
OUTLOOK: There isn’t much experience on the Red Tornado roster, but Bippus sees some talent. “The key to this season will be getting some solid matches early and learning from them,” he said.
Penn Manor
COACH: Jon Boxleitner (fifth season).
2007 RECORD: 4-12, 1-9 L-L Section 1.
KEY PLAYERS LOST: Eduardo Panza.
KEY PLAYERS RETURNING: Allan Dunk, sr.
OUTLOOK: There’s an increased commitment, Boxleitner says, but the Comets won’t have enough to challenge the league’s top teams.

2007 RECORD: 2-8, 2-8 L-L Section 1.
KEY PLAYERS LOST: Ian Gebhard, Jake McGlashon, Forrest Zimmerman.
KEY PLAYERS RETURNING: Chris Carson, sr.; Drew Haefner, so.
OUTLOOK: The Warriors will be short on experience, but Wanner will have a good turnout of young players.

2007 RECORD: 0-11, 0-9 L-L Section 2.
KEY PLAYERS LOST: None.
KEY PLAYERS RETURNING: Jesse Blank, jr.; Zack Mink, jr.; Nate Johnson, so.; Will Brennan, fr.
OUTLOOK: After a winless 2007, there’s nowhere to go but up. And Riley sees what could be a considerable up, with all five players back from last year and a good deal of potential. She expects .to field strong doubles teams. “These boys have the most potential of all the players I have worked with since I have been here,” she said.

KEY PLAYERS RETURNING: Austin Moran, sr.; Dane Jester, jr.; Joel Keefer, jr.; Kevin Meyer, jr.; Mitchell Ebersole, so.; Zach Meador, so.; Chris Royer, so.
OUTLOOK: Austin Moran and brother Patrick Moran, a freshman, give the Indians a solid 1-2 punch. Youngsters Ebersole, Meador and Royer are strong players. But the Indians’ overall ability could be overshadowed by other teams in a strong Section 2.
Elco
COACH: Zach Cook (first season).
2007 RECORD: 6-5, 6-3 L-L Section 2.
KEY PLAYERS LOST: Jordan Cleary, Terry Kunder, Dan Snyder.
KEY PLAYERS RETURNING: Grant Moyer, jr.; Freddy Shaak, so.

Lampeter-Strasburg
COACH: Mark Trach (eighth season).
2007 RECORD: 10-5, 8-1 L-L Section 2, tied for first.
KEY PLAYERS LOST: Shane Frick, Gray West.
KEY PLAYERS RETURNING: Mike Elliot, sr.; Jon Ring, sr.; Peter Whitlock, sr.; Derek Herr, jr.;.Jody Sambrick, fr.
OUTLOOK: The Pioneers will be hard-pressed to match Lancaster Catholic, which they tied for the section title last year. But a strong group of seniors should give L-S a good shot at finishing in the top three.

Last year, they tied for the Section 2 title with L-S, won the L-L League and District 3 Class Double-A team titles, and advanced to the state semifinals. Veronis won the L-L Double-A title and was third in Districts. Veronis and DiPilla teamed for the L-L League doubles crown.
